Bio

Born in Patagonia, Argentina, Lia moved to Buenos Aires where she graduated as a lawyer and worked for several years. During this time she practiced as a writer but at some point words became visual imaginary. She trained in painting and engraving and became a multidisciplinary artist. Her work is characterized by her industriousness and complexity. In a thorough research she explores domestic spaces entangled with the natural world. She uses the ornamental language as a visual and symbolic link between these worlds. She participated in several exhibitions in Argentina, USA (NY, Chicago and Miami), UK and Spain. Some of her solo shows include “Perro – Lobo”(2020) invited by ICBC Bank Fundation in Buenos Aires; “Utotropico” (2018) awarded by Centro Cultural San Martin in Buenos Aires and “The works of Lia Porto” (2016) by Kroto Fine Arts in Chicago. She has been included in some international art publishings like Textile Curator (2020), The New Collectors Book (NY 2014), “The best of 2014” by Saatchi Art Collection. She was awarded the First Prize Acquisition at the III Salón Nacional Vicentín. Her works are in private collections in Argentina, USA, Germany, Switzerland, England and Slovenia.
